Madredeus occurs as Portuguese band. Their music combines fado influences with modern folk music.

A band's initiation members were Pedro Ayres Magalhães (Classical guitar), Rodrigo Leão (keyboard synthesizer), Francisco Ribeiro (cello) and Teresa Salgueiro (vocals). Magalhães & Leão formed a band inside 1985, Ribeiro joined within 1986. It'd been shopping for the female singer, & uncovered Teresa Salgueiro in one of Lisbon's night clubs. Teresa liked their music & agreed to jowithinside, and so in 1987 Madredeus (known as that because it began swimming in an abbey Madre de Deus) recorded their foremost album, Os bartholomeu dias district attorney Madredeus.

Around 1993, Pedro Ayres Magalhães left a b& temporarily and was replaced around survive concerts by José Peixoto (Classical guitar). Magalhães rejoined the class action down the road, making it a sextet with two guitar player.

Inside 1994 Rodrigo Leão left the band to begin a solo career, existence replaced by Carlos Maria Trindade (keyboard synthesizer).

It freed many albums & became super popular around Portugal, however remained comparatively unknown outside a united states. This changed within 1995 while Wim Wenders, impressed by their music, asked Madredeus to score his documentary about Lisbon called Lisbon Story - a soundtrack gave the band international fame.

Within 1997 Francisco Ribeiro & Gabriel Gomes left the band when Madredeus' style began abandoning its fado roots sustaining a release of O Paraíso. At this period Fernando Júdice (Acoustic bass guitar) was invited to join them, to form the todays lineup, once again a quintet.
